Microsoft has revealed that Windows 8 will have the same system requirements with Windows 7. Where one of the methods for achieving this is to reduce RAM usage charges in the Operating System.
Saving the use of RAM on Windows 8 certainly can significantly extend the use of a PC that uses batteries (laptop or tablet PC) because RAM is one component in the computer the most widely use electric current.
Microsoft is doing the change and optimizations to reduce memory usage of RAM on Windows 8, here are some ways that they are following:
Memory combining
Combining memory allows Windows to efficiently access the contents of the RAM during normal usage and find duplicate content within the system memory. Windows then just retain one of them and delete the other duplicate content. This method is claimed to speed up and save use of 10-100MB of memory; depending on the number of applications that are running.
Enhancement and reduction of services
Microsoft is improving service in Windows 8 and has made some of them walk or run manually when needed (Start on demand). Services such as plug and play as well as Windows Update in Windows 8 will no longer run automatically when the computer is turned on, but it only runs when needed only.
More efficient use of memory in OS operation
